savidge shows us the conditions in petaluma. >> reporter: good morning, tori. we're seeing a brief band of showers kind of blowing through this area in petaluma, where we've been all morning long. this is highway 101. this is southbound traffic coming toward the camera. the roads are slick. this is right at the redwood highway exit. we've seen the roads. they've been wet all morning long. it could be a rough commute because of the system moving into the area. you look up there very ommy nows clouds off in the distance and there's more rain coming today. let me show you what things looked like earlier in the morning. this is at about 4:30 in the morning, a steady rain was falling in the area. the roads were very wet for quite some time. that rain moved through quickly. when it's all said and done, some spots could get up to .50 of rain today. the national weather service is predicting this blast of cold weather could potentially bring hail in some spots. as we bling you back out -- bring you back out here live, you can see traffic is moving slicely but the roads are slick this morning. a
. it is unclear whether that building. >> police say thieves are targeting businesses in petaluma. since august, there have been at least 41 commercial burglaries citywide. two of them happening in the past couple of days. kron four's philippe djegal explains how the suspects. so far, have gotten away the recent heists. >> reporter: business owners here at the arroyo shopping center say this was the work of professionals. they say the suspects lifted these panels, then cut the telephone lines, disabling the alarm systems. that also cut off the video surveillance in both stores. so, neither business caught the robberies on tape. >> the amount of damage was over $100,000. according to at&t. they had to rewire everything working all night. >> reporter: police say the suspects smashed through the front door of adobe beverages and food in petaluma. crawled through the broken glass. then once inside, broke open the atm machine, stole cash, and took a money safe behind the counter as well. tilak shukla has owned the business on south mcdowell boulevard for 14 years, and says the burglary happened late

that shook up the petaluma community. and tonight we have more answers. 19-year-old alissa burn of petaluma died of hypothermia. but autopsy results reveal she had meth and other psychoactive drugs in her system. she was found dead in south lake tahoe after a new year's eve concert. a utility worker found her body in a snowbank about four days later. investigators think she may have tried to walk three miles in freezing weather from that concert to her hotel in south shore. boot prints also suggested she was disoriented. >>> police are looking for a man who attacked and rained a young woman visiting the uc santa cruz campus. a sketch of the suspect. the victim described him as being muscular and white, in his 30s with dark hair, a full mustache and a goatee. she also said he had a tattoo on his upper right arm and wore a dark blue t-shirt and said he smelled of cigarettes. the 21-year-old victim was treated at hospital for bruising. >>> a shove to the chest ends up with a slap on the wrist. mike montgomery, one of the most legendary basketball coaches in bay area history was reprimanded tod
moriarty joins us for more on this story, tara? >> reporter: we are here at petaluma high school where students and parents have been placed on alert and that's because 17-year-old -- a 17- year-old student suddenly became ill and collapsed. he contracted the blood infection caused by a bacteria that can develop into meningitis. school officials sent out an alert to let them know if they came in contact they need to seek medical help. the disease is treated with antibiotics and if it is untreated it can lead to death in all cases. it can be spread by kissing sharing a drink or getting coughed on. if you have the by at it be -- antibiotics you will be okay. as 14th he is greatly improved but he is still in serious condition. we will tell you about another case that popped up at another north bay high school coming up and tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 morning news. >>> there is information out of kansas city missouri where more than a dozen people were hurt after an explosion triggered a huge fire. one person missing was found. crews are still out there searching for yet another missing p
